Legal requirements for UHWS Design, installation, service and maintenance
BBA and BS Standards
Direct/indirect fired

Approximately 250 people die each year from Legionnaires Disease, in practice, as many as 10 times that number may well die from this disease. In November 2000 HSE introduced an Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) on the subject of Legionnaires' disease; recently they have introduced Guidance Note L8. The new guidance now puts responsibilities on a wide range of organisations, groups and self-employed individuals who are responsible for the water system(s) in their premises, including:

Holiday Park owners
Local Authorities, Universities, Charities, Hostels
Touring Caravan/camping site owners
Managing Agents oHousing Associations, including housing companies
Landlords in the private renting sector
Hoteliers, B&B and guest houses

Providers of such accommodation will have to assess the risk from exposure to Legionella to staff, guests and customers and people working in their premises. If you are responsible for the maintenance of a boiler, tap, shower etc. in one of the above sectors then you need to be aware of the legal requirements in Guidance Note L8.

Two courses are available:

Installer course - aimed at engineers and installers who carry out treatment and work on water supplies in buildings.
Responsible person course - for those whose duty it is to manage this process on properties that fall under their control.
